By Mark Barrera
Former international commit Omar Thielemans wasn’t on campus long. Before the season even began, he announced he was transferring.
Former Arizona Wildcat commit out of Belgium, Omar Thielemans, has informed ZonaZealots he has officially transferred to Wright State University out of Dayton, OH.
Omar was a surprise commit for the 2019 class. The small forward out of Belgium wasn’t on anyone’s radar until news spread he was on campus. Shortly after being on campus, Omar announced his decision to commit to the University of Arizona.

The Wildcats were feeling the effects of the FBI probe and were losing recruits as fast as they were collecting them. So getting a 6-foot-8 wing player was a high priority and Omar seemed to fit the need. Undervalued, not much known nationally, but someone who could stick around for three to four years.
But not all things are meant to be. When he wasn’t seen for the Red/Blue game, rumors and whispers began to spread across the internet. Coach Sean Miller told the media he was handling some personal things and it would be a long-term decision.
We soon found out Omar was transferring out of the program before seeing the floor. If you’ve followed Omar on social media, you know how great of a young man he is. He’s never afraid to give people a shout out, respond to fans, and even face-time fans.

The question we all have on our mind is what went wrong? Social media ran wild with all kinds of thoughts on his decision to transfer. I reached out to Omar personally to get his side of the story. Once the dust settles, and Omar is all set and ready to go at Wright State, we’ll bring you the story straight from Omar himself.
But right now we want to congratulate Omar and wish him luck with the Raiders. I can personally say Omar is a great young man and I can’t wait to sit down with him. All of us here at ZonaZealots are excited to see what he will do on the court. Good luck and Bear Down!
Site Experts Note: All of us at Zona Zealots were bummed out it didn’t work out but we will be following his career from now on because he is already made it into our hearts.
