Arizona Basketball is fortunate that Nico Mannion still plans on playing for Coach Miller despite coaching changes.

One thing is consistent in life and this is change. This statement can’t ring more true than for the University of Arizona basketball team. As they are still trying to shake off a FBI and NCAA investigation that shook the basketball program to its core. So much so that this years team is struggling to maintain the dominance in the PAC-12 that they have enjoyed over the past few years.

This can change quickly come next year as Arizona sports the number one recruiting class in the nation. A big piece of that recruiting class is Nico Mannion who recently re-confirmed his commit to Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildcats.

With all these changes to the coaching staff it can be hard to keep the commitment of the top recruits in the nation. As recruits fear that changes in the coaching staff might change the promises made to them in which made them commit to the University in the first place.

This was seen last year at the University of Arizona as many of its top recruits left as ESPN broke the news of Sean Miller being accused (falsely) of being part of a pay to play recruiting tactic. Such recruits as Shareef O’Neal and Bol Bol were quick to give up on their interest in the Wildcats and commit to opposing PAC-12 schools in UCLA and Oregon.

Good news for Arizona Basketball and it’s fans as its top recruit reconfirmed his intent on playing for Sean Miller in the 2019 season. This interest was confirmed through Nico’s dad who said his son still wants to play for Coach Miller despite the firing of assistant Coach Mark Phelps. The Mannion family showed their support for Phelps as they spoke highly of him from relationship they have formed through out the recruiting process.

Nico continues to make Cats fans with high anticipation as he impresses every step of the way on his farewell tour from Pinnacle High School. He has accomplished everything a high school basketball player in the state of Arizona could dream of. From winning state last year, dropping 57 points in one game and hitting buzzer beaters.

Nico, along side Brandon Williams, will create the backcourt that Sean Miller has dreamed of. Also they will have the size on the wings and inside next year to create problems all over the court. It will also put the Wildcats back into the National Championship picture as they look to take Sean Miller to his first Final Four.

Just like Nico is keeping the faith in Sean Miller, we the fans have to do the same thing. There is no evidence that supports he did anything wrong. Therefore there is no reason for this recruiting class to head any where but the University of Arizona. Don’t feed into the negativity that Dick Vitale and other national media members bring to such a storied program. And as always, BEARDOWN and Go Cats!
