Arizona Softball: Two games, Two wins.. just how the Wildcats drew it up!

Arizona softball was tested early and often as they looked to find out who they are as a team. Just like any team early on in the season there is always kinks to workout. In softball it could be the transition on a double play ball or working on different situations in a game. Such as what does the batter do with a runner on second and one out. After a doubleheader, the Wildcats will be happy to get back to the practice field as they will be feeling good about themselves.

The first game for Cats was against Drake University who was looking to upset the twentieth ranked team in the nation. The Wildcats would power past Drake as they would rely on the power off of Jessie Harpers bat. Harper hit home run six and seven on the year which also her second multi home run game. The pop off her bat was too much for Drake as the Cats would go onto win the game 9-4.

The second game for the Wildcats was against Kent State who also was looking to pull off the upset. Good news for the Cats, Jessie Harper’s bat stayed hot as she hit another home run in this game. Her teammate Izzy Pacho wanted to join in on the fun as she also went yard in this game.

Not to be over looked by the starting pitching performance of Gina Synder who pitched a gem today in her first ever appearance at Hillenbrand Stadium. Gina was missing bats as she took a no hitter into the fourth. At the end of the day she only allowed one hit and also punched out seven batters.

The combination of pitching and hitting lead the Cats to a victory over Kent State by a score of ten to nothing. Any night that donuts are up on the board for the opposing team, you know it was a successful night. In this case a very successful double header for the Cats as they walk away with two wins in one day.

If you like watching high level softball, make sure to make it out to a Wildcats game this year at Hillenbrand Stadium. This group of young ladies need and deserve your support all season long as they look to bring home yet another National Championship home to Tucson. As always fans, BearDown and Go Cats!
