The Arizona Women’s Basketball team continued their dominance with a  67-45 win over Wyoming in the round of eight in the WNIT.

Another win! The Arizona Women’s Basketball team continued where they left off with a 67-45 win over Wyoming to advance to the semifinals of the WNIT. In front of the largest crowd since 2016, 7,717 strong showed up to support this team and give them that extra boost. Right from tip off this team had it’s foot on the gas and never looked back.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 11-0  in just 3 minutes of play. They would go on to stay in lead for the entirety of the game. The closest Wyoming would get is within 10 points in the third quarter. Aari Mcdonald played like the all-time leading scorer at Arizona. She led everyone with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. Her counterpart Cate Reese had a stellar game with 13 points and nine rebounds.

More from Arizona Wildcats

Mcdonald would get into early foul trouble in the first half, but that didn’t stop her at all from playing her style of game. At 5 foot 7, she doesn’t let her size stop her from getting to the basket. On multiple occasions she found ways to drive through multiple defenders to finish at the rim. Plus, both she and Reese have this no fear mentality, which makes them a scary threat when they are both on fire.

Wyoming would make a small run in the first half, but didn’t make much of a dent into the Wildcats 26-15 lead heading into the locker room. Mcdonald finished the first 20 minutes of play with 12 points and Tee Tee Starks had six points. The Wildcat also were out rebounding their opponent 23-16 and were preventing them from any good looks at the rim.

In the second half, it was all Reese who was on fire. She scored nine straight points, giving the Wildcats a 19 point game. Similar to the last game though, their opponent would crawl back into this game, cutting the deficit to 10, but then that’s all she wrote. At the end of the third, the Cats were up 42-29.

The fourth quarter was all Wildcats! They made three consecutive three pointers, all by three different players, to start and increased the lead to 20 points! Layups, jumpers, free throws, everything was going down for this team! They would go onto win 67-45.

Up next for this team is TCU at home on Wednesday. At the end of the game, Barnes addressed the crowd thanking them for their support. Then Mcdonald threw in “We need 10,000.” That is realistic. This team deserves all of Tucson’s support as they are the only team in Arizona playing in March (now April).

At Zona Zealots, we would like to congratulate this team on continuing this special season and advancing to the semifinals of the WNIT. I personally want to thank Wildcat fans for showing up and supporting this team. It’s so easy in today’s age to overlook women sports. Also, want to thank all the coaches and other Arizona Wildcat teams with the support. It’s amazing to witness what can happen when everyone comes together to support a real good cause. Bear Down, Arizona!
