As former Wildcat Channing Frye heads into retirement, the lovable basketball player made sure to troll fans one last time in response to his ‘haters’!
I’m sure we all remember the once, tall and lanky kid from St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix, Arizona. As Channing Frye came to Tucson in 2001, who knew that he would develop into a top center in college basketball.
Following his amazing, four-year career at Arizona, Frye would then be drafted No. 8 overall by the New York Knicks in 2005. From there, he would spend the next several years bouncing from destinations like; Portland, Phoenix, Orlando, Cleveland, Los Angeles and finally back with Cleveland!

Although he was never really an NBA “Super-star”, Frye certainly made himself very serviceable to any team that needed him. His hard-work, grit and overall great attitude has helped him to enjoy an illustrious career.
Now after 13 successful seasons, Frye is calling it quits. If you may recall, earlier this season, Frye announced he would be retiring at the end of the year, officially closing that chapter of his life.
He will go down as one of Arizona’s successful pro’s, finishing his career averaging 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped internet trolls from hating on Frye and his career. So naturally, Frye did what he does best, make the best of his situation and seemingly make fun of those around him.
Also, just because Frye is retiring, it’s doesn’t mean he’s swearing of basketball for good! In fact, he welcomes the challenge of those that want to face him!
"“I’m rich, I’m a champion, I’m 35 and retiring and I’m living a great life. So, if you think I suck, I’ll see you at LA Fitness in a year, motherf–ker,” Frye said."
Aside from Basketball, Frye is also staying busy with his podcast alongside former Wildcat teammate, NBA teammate and friend, Richard Jefferson. Beyond that, who knows? Perhaps we could eventually see Frye in the ‘Big 3’ league, or even join the broadcasting booth!
At Zona Zealots, we’re excited to follow his career beyond basketball, and can’t wait to see where he ends up next! Bear Down, Channing and enjoy your retirement!
