Continuing to build the program with more talent, here is what the Arizona Football team is getting in its latest commitment.

As a football coach, sometimes you gotta get a bit creative in finding talent anywhere that you can get it, and if the latest Arizona Football commit is any indication, it seems like the Wildcats got a unique one.

So who is this new mystery man for the Cats? Well, let’s just say he traded in his sneakers and gym shorts, for pads, cleats and a helmet.

Meet Zach Lord, the 6-foot-10, 265-pound former center turned football player, that will soon don the ‘Arizona red-and-blue’.

A former Division II basketball player, Lord was in Tucson this past weekend, visiting the Arizona campus. Shortly afterward, Lord felt he found the right spot, announcing that he would be committing to the University of Arizona on Sunday!

After a solid sophomore season, it appears he had a change of heart, taking his talents from the hardwood to the gridiron.

So what should the Wildcats expect in Lord? At this point it’s hard to say. Either way, it seems like Lord is a low-risk, high-reward player.

So what’s to like about Lord? Well for one, he is a great athlete and solid basketball player.

Need evidence? Well, this past season Lord averaged 8.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Patriots.

Additionally, he has great size and could easily come in and be another big target for the Cats.

Quite personally, I think tight end is where Lord ultimately ends up, but can’t help but wonder what he’d be like as an edge rusher as well. His size, mobility and overall athleticism could be a benefit to the Cats should they decide to move him there. Either way, he’s a solid athlete with nice potential.

As it stands, because Dallas Baptist doesn’t have a football program, it’s quite possible Lord can come in and be eligible immediately for 2019, although that it is unofficial yet as per the Arizona Daily Star.

Here are some of Zach’s basketball highlights from high school!

At Zona Zealots, we’re excited for the addition of Zach and can’t wait to see what he can do for the Cats! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
