The Arizona Softball team has been dominating their opponents in the Pac-12, with the latest victim being the Stanford Cardinals.

Domination! The Arizona Softball team has been on fire of late! They just completed their fifth straight sweep and 20th win in a row. Overall they sit a top the Pac-12 at 15-0  and No. 7 in the country. They are on pace to surpass last season’s overall record of 43-14 with a current record of 38-7. Yeah, that’s good, real good.

The last time this team lost was on March 10th against at the time No.1 Florida State. In that three game series the Wildcats did win one of three. Since that lost, this team has been firing on all cylinders. They are a team on a mission, a mission to win the National Championship! The one win they had against the Seminoles has seemed to given the Wildcats the confidence they needed to know they can compete with anyone.

More from Arizona Wildcats

Everything has been going right for this team, including legendary head Coach Mike Candrea who just won his 1,600. He became the fastest coach in any sport to achieve this feat. Candrea has been the head coach at Arizona for the last 32 years and has been one of the main reasons for the program success over the last several decades. The last season his team made it to the Super Regional and this season they have legitimate chance to go much further.

In the last 20 games they played, they have outscored their opponent 180-17, won 12 games in run-rule fashion and shutout their opponent 10 times. I guess that new and improved Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium is working out.

Pitching has been stellar so far this season. Leading the way is senior Taylor McQuillin who is 17-5 on the year, has an ERA of 1.23 and in 136 innings pitched she has only allowed 34 runs on 74 hits. Alyssa Denham has stepped in nicely as well for Arizona with an overall record of 9-2 and an ERA of 1.86. In 62 innings that she has pitched, she has allowed 22 runs on 42 hits. The other four pitchers have come in when needed and have stepped up in a huge way!

The Wildcats hitting has been explosive, one of the main factors that has led to this team’s overall success so far this year. Home run after home run. Jessie Harper leads the team in that category with 24 (also leads in RBIs with 55) and Dejah Mulipola has 20. Singles, doubles, triples, RBI’s, this team does it all! Their are 10 Wildcats that have double digits in hits, with Reyna Carranco leading the way with 63 hits!

Heading into the series against Arizona, Stanford was playing some good softball with an overall record of 30-7 and 7-2 Pac-12 play. They though couldn’t get anything going against the Wildcats and were outscored 29-3. In the last games of the series, the Wildcats put up 12 runs in the third. I repeat, 12 runs in the third! This grand slam by Malia Martinez is one of the reasons why:

The Wildcats have just not being doing it on the offensive end but also on defense. Like any sport, defense plays an important role in securing a victory. Against Stanford, Alyssa Palomino had this diving catch to end the inning:

At Zona Zealots, we want to congratulate this team on their dominance. They have three remaining series: California, Washington and then UCLA before postseason begins. The women’s basketball team won a championship, the softball team will be looking to do the same. What a great time to be a Wildcat fan. Bear Down, Arizona!
