Arizona Football: More Wildcats land on NFL Rosters as Free Agents
TUCSON, AZ- With the 2019 NFL Draft officially over, movement with some NFL teams wasn’t done as a few former Arizona Football players signed as free agents.
Although they weren’t drafted, a few former Arizona Football players have found homes with different NFL teams following the 2019 NFL Draft.
Coming in, we knew not many Wildcats were likely to be drafted into the NFL this past weekend, however, just because they weren’t drafted doesn’t mean there wasn’t going to be an opportunity for some to join a roster in some capacity.
Arizona Wildcats
Luckily for three Wildcats, they will have the chance to make NFL rosters, after being signed as undrafted free agents. Those three are; Shawn Poindexter, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and long-snapper Nick Reinhardt.
All three did well at the Arizona Pro Day and although they were not drafted, they will get their chance to make an impact with their respective teams and hopefully make rosters as the season gets closer.
Poindexter and Flannigan-Fowles will stay teammates, as the two will head to San Francisco, and Reinhardt will head to Cleveland, as he joins the Browns.
While the road from here will be difficult, it’s at least possible they could make rosters of NFL teams as they Bear Down and fight for their position!
Poindexter will have a potentially great situation, as he was a lowly-rated recruit, but has gotten significantly better each season since being at Arizona. Plus his size will be a great advantage in the NFL.
The 49ers don’t have very many large targets, and even though they drafted two receivers, perhaps its possible he sticks. He surely showed his worth in Tucson this past season!
As for Flannigan-Fowles, the sky is the limit! He was playing his best ball towards the end of last year, and had a great pro day, he just unfortunately didn’t get drafted.
As it stands, it appears the 49ers have just two safeties on roster, so perhaps that’s a great chance for Demetrius to make an impact during the camp and potentially beyond!
For Reinhardt, it’ll be interesting to see how his situation plays out. Long-snappers are incredibly undervalued in football and the Browns have just Charley Hughlett on roster currently.
Moving forward, it’s feasible he could end up on the roster, or at least have a chance to make the roster! Either way, we’re excited for him!
At Zona Zealots, we’re happy for Shawn, Nick and Demetrius and finding spots with NFL teams and hope they can make those destinations permanent homes! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
