In the college basketball bribery trial of Christian Dawkins, many have voiced their opinion including ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale about Sean Miller.

A disgrace. That’s what ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale has called head coach Sean Miller. Wow. Since the beginning, it seems as if Vitale has had it out for Miller and the Arizona Wildcat basketball program. He doesn’t hold back and doesn’t know when to stop. As we get closer to finding out the outcome of the Christian Dawkins trial, more facts and evidence will result in more opinions.

Before I get to what he actually said on Twitter, it’s important to understand the context of this whole situation. In the digital age we live in, social media has become the place were the majority of people get their news and updates from. Now that’s not always a bad thing, but their are times when certain people representing big media outlets, such as ESPN, take it to far. Vitale has done that.

More from Arizona Wildcats

As the trial of Dawkins continues, more and more people are starting to question if Miller is guilty or not. Where is the proof? Until there is an actual tape of Miller’s voice indicating he did pay players, he is 100% innocent in my opinion. Miller has already been cleared by the FBI and even raided his house and found no evidence.

All that being said and with all the evidence and on-going updates with this case, that didn’t stop Vitale from calling out Miller. A former Indiana Hoosier, who played under Bob Knight, Todd Jadlow, replied to one of Vitale’s tweets, which then resulted in Vitale tweeting this out:

Important to note here that he did copy and paste the tweet, but at the end added the mention of Rick Pitino, who he is big supporter of. This says a lot, but more then anything it does show his bias towards Pitino. It also proves that Vitale is not understanding the facts. Clearly cheats? Where is the actual evidence that supports this claim?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but as a representative of ESPN he should be held accountable for things he says on social media. Stating a strong opinion without any actual evidence or facts to back it up is not a good look and hurts your creditability. What’s even worse that is Vitale has not yet once apologize for all the things he has said about Miller and his program.

Is Miller a disgrace? Absolutely not. He is the completely opposite. What he has done for this program since day one has been remarkable. He has not won a national championship or made it to the final four, but the talent he has brought in, Pac-12 championships won and win-loss record speaks for itself.

At Zona Zealots, we felt it was necessary to bring this to everyone’s attention. It’s not okay for someone, employed by ESPN, to call a head coach of college basketball a disgrace to the University and fan base. We can all hope that Vitale will apologize for his latest statement. If not, this wouldn’t be the first time Wildcat basketball and its fan based has faced adversity. Bear Down, Arizona!
