TUCSON, AZ- Continuing in the Tucson Regional of the NCAA Tournament, the Arizona Softball team (44-12) is just one win away from advancing!

In one of their biggest tests of the season thus far, the Arizona Softball team picked-up the NCAA Regional action against Auburn after beating Harvard on Friday evening!

Needing a huge performance, the Wildcats would once again turn to Taylor McQuillin, hoping for a big showing.

Early on, we had quite the stalemate in this one, as both teams would trade hits through much of the first three innings. Both the Wildcats and Tigers would leave quite a couple opportunities to open this one, with neither team ever converting.

Auburn would go three-up, three-down in the top of the fourth inning, setting up Arizona for a well-timed, much-needed bottom of the fourth.

Still tied 0-0, Rylee Pierce would come to the plate for the Cats, showing great plate discipline, as she walked to begin the inning. Then it was Reyna Carranco who would single through the left side to advance Pierce to second.

After back-to-back outs, that would leave runners on second and third, setting up for a pinch hitter in Tamara Statman. T-Stat would be the hero here, when she would single up the middle to score Carranco and Pierce to make it 2-0 Cats!

Apparently that’s all Arizona would virtually need in this one, as McQuillin would continue her dominant performance.

Auburn would be sit down quickly in the fifth and sixth innings, leaving them with just three outs to try and extend the game here.

With the Wildcats still leading 2-0, McQuillin would enter the seventh, looking to shut it down completely.

Unfortunately on the first at-bat in the inning, McQuillin would give up a home run to make it 2-1. Luckily, that’s all that would happen here, as a McQuillin held the Tigers scoreless, getting three quick outs.

Arizona would go on to win by a 2-1 final!

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 44-12 on the year, and become just win away from advancing to the Super Regional’s.

McQuillin would also improve to 22-7 on the year, after pitching seven, strong innings, as she surrendered just one run on six hits, while striking out five.

Again, T-Stat would be the hero here, as she went a perfect 1-1 from the plate, driving in the only two runs for Arizona!

Being just one win away, Arizona will face Auburn again today, and need to win just one game to advance! The first game will be at 4 pm, and hopefully that will be all they need. If Auburn were to win, game two will be set for immediately after.
