Does Arizona Basketball lead for 2020 wing, Donovan ‘Puff’ Johnson?
With months until the 2019-20 season, Sean Miller and the Arizona Basketball team focuses their recruiting efforts for 2020 and beyond!
College Basketball recruiting is an ongoing event, and for Arizona Basketball it certainly never stops, especially as Sean Miller and the program focus on 2020 and beyond!
For those that follow or care to know, despite the NCAA speculation, Miller and the Wildcats are full steam ahead. Making offers and still recruiting the top talent in each class, it seems like Arizona hasn’t lost a step.
Arizona Wildcats
One of their top targets thus far has been 2020 wing, Donovan ‘Puff’ Johnson! A four-star and uber talent at Moon Area High School in Coraopolis, PA, he’s considered the No. 52 overall prospect and No. 15 small forward in the class.
Garnering offers from Arizona, North Carolina, Pitt, Notre Dame and Louisville among others, he’s certainly talented, and it appears the Wildcats are doing incredibly well. So well in fact, that they could potentially be the favorites to land Johnson!
On Friday evening, just a day after the NBA Draft and Puff Johnson’s brother Cam being selected by the Phoenix Suns, it appears Arizona could now be a favorite to land Puff!
Two more 247 ‘Crystal Ball’ selections came in from Recruiting Analyst’s Jason Scheer and Josh Gershon, making the Wildcats a strong contender to land Johnson.
If Johnson were to come here, this would potentially be a huge pick up. Even more interesting with the latest recruiting development, is that Johnson could have to make some tough choices here pretty soon too.
As it stands, he’s slated to be for the 2020 class, but days ago, it was announced that Johnson was denied an extra year of eligibility by the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL).
So what will he do? Will he appeal their decision? Will he transfer high schools? Will he go the prep school route? Or could he feasibly try to take classes to graduate high school early and reclassify in order to attend a college in the fall?
If the latter happened, that would be huge for the Cats, especially as Terry Armstrong decided to go pro, Brandon Randolph signed a summer league deal, and Brandon Williams was rumored to be leaving.
If Johnson were to come in, he could provide immediate depth and be another talented player for the Cats!
At 6-feet-7-inches and 185 pounds, he’s got great size, length and athleticism. He has the perfect body to be an effective defender, again having that length and versatility.
On offense, he’s a perfect fit for Miller’s system. He’s a dynamic athlete and basketball player and can score in many different ways, even having NBA range! Just take a look for yourself!
At Zona Zealots, we’re excited to see the recruiting development of Johnson and hope the Wildcats can continue their success! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
