Entering his seventh season with the Wildcats, Fred Snowden and Arizona would begin their first year in the Pac-10 Conference that season.

This would be a memorable year for the Wildcats, as they would host both UCLA and USC in the same season!

First squaring off with the perennially talented No. 3 Bruins (led by Gary Cunningham) on January 18, 1979, the Wildcats would do the unthinkable, knocking off the Bruins 70-69 in dramatic fashion!

Just days later, Arizona would get their first-ever sweep of the Los Angeles-area schools in their inaugural Pac-10 season, when the Wildcats would beat the Trojans 74-72 at home!
