No. 8 – Arizona upsets UNLV in the 1976 NCAA Tournament

Who: 1976 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 game between Arizona and UNLV Runnin Rebels

When: 3/18/1976

Where: Los Angeles

Game stats: Wildcats had four players in double figures, led by Herman Harris who had 31 points, Jim Rappis had 24 points, Bob Elliot had 20 points and Phil Taylor had 18 points.

Easily the best year during the Fred Snowden days, the Wildcats would have one of their best, and one of the most unlikely seasons.

Largely led by Bob Elliott and Al Fleming among others that season, the Wildcats would get to the NCAA Tournament after finishing with third in the WAC conference that year!

Arizona would begin the tournament by playing Georgetown, before squaring off with the Jerry Tarkanian UNLV Runnin’ Rebels.

The two teams would have an epic showdown in this one before Arizona would ultimately pull away in double overtime. Herman Harris would finish the game with 31 points en route to Arizona’s 114-109 win!
