Former Arizona Basketball players to watch in NBA Summer League
The Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Sacramento Kings also hired Arizona Basketball Alums for their summer league teams.
Gabe York will play for the Orlando Magic, he shined on their G-League affiliate Lakeland Magic so the organization is sticking with York. I went to a few of Yorks games, and in each one he splashed three’s and played great defense. Gabe is a great teammate and his teammates feed off of his energy.
Gabe never stops, after the G-League was over he went to play in Greece for Club AEK Athens in the Greek Basket League.
Brandon Randolph will be playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves for former Wildcat Jesse Mermuys, Walton’s Assistant coach. Slim left Arizona and has been training ever since. Shortly after the draft, Randolph was selected to play in Summer League. Randolph has great potential and at 6-foot-6 has good size. Arizona fans know that when “on” Randolph can shoot very well. Let’s hope he shines this summer and lands a two-way contract or more.
Randolph is playing with another under-the-radar player LSU’s Naz Reid. Reid dominated the Ballislife All-American game a year ago but came out a year after playing in the NCAA. Randolph and Reid should be able to provide some fun highlights for the Timberwolves.
Brandon Ashley will play with the Sacramento Kings (Luke Walton’s new team). Ashley has played in the G-League and various Summer League teams in his pro career, but mostly played in Texas for the Dallas Mavericks organization. For a change, he spent some time in Germany playing for Alba Berlin.
We will update this post as we hear of possibly more Wildcats playing in the Las Vegas Summer League 2019 which starts this Friday, July 5th, 2019. See you there!
