Arizona Basketball: Fans want fair treatment in the NCAA investigation
By Jordan Cuda
Former Arizona Basketball assistant coach Book Richardson is the only coach to receive jail time in the NCAA basketball scandal.
As a collective fan base, we are still waiting for the punishment to be handed down from the NCAA for the roles coaches played in the “pay to play” scandal throughout college basketball. While the NCAA sorts through this process all that Wildcat fans can hope for is fair treatment for the Arizona Basketball program.
Wildcat fans are willing to admit that the coaches at Arizona should have never put the program at risk. Our coaching staff should have avoided a devious sports agent such as Christian Dawkins and be able to sniff out the suspicious activity that surrounded him.
Unfortunately for Arizona Wildcat fans, we can not go back and change the past. So here we are focusing on the future of the Arizona basketball program. While the hopes of the future remain high due to an elite recruiting class that could all come crashing down if this NCAA investigation does not shake out in the favor of the Wildcats.

As of yesterday, the hopes of having a fair process in the investigation took a hit as a fan base we found out that our former assistant coach Book Richardson was the only coach to receive jail time.
In this case, Chuck Person committed the exact same crime that Richardson did while their times as assistant coaches at their respective schools. There are many questions that still remain.
Why is Richardson receiving jail time and others are home free? Why does it seem like the Arizona basketball program is being the scapegoat for this whole NCAA basketball investigation?
These are questions to which we may never know the real truth behind. Wildcat fans can agree though that what happened in Person’s court ruling absolutely should have happened with Richardson’s, but did not.
While we can all speculate on why the treatment for Arizona is different than other programs. Richardson reminds us that we have to accept the current situation and move on. While trying to keep hope that the truth will eventually set us free.
As we wait for the good news about Arizona Basketball program, we hope that the NCAA and even the media can see that the timeline set forth does not add up and the evidence is not there to penalize the Arizona basketball program. As always Wildcats, BearDown, and Go Cats!
