TUCSON, AZ – Tuning up prior to the start of the 2019 Arizona Soccer season, the Wildcats blank the University of San Diego in a friendly match!

Another exciting Arizona Soccer season is nearly upon us, and after a successful 2018 campaign, the Wildcats are just about ready to kick-off the 2019 season!

We’re now just a few days away until the start of the regular season. Already the Wildcats are getting things started a little early, as they played in what will be their only friendly match this season.

That’s right, on Friday, the Wildcats took on the visiting San Diego Toreros, and it seems like Arizona hasn’t missed much of a beat from last season.

For those that weren’t aware, the Wildcats finished the 2018 season with a 13-6-2 record, making the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season. With a decent contingency of their talent returning from last season, and the Wildcats could have big things in store.

On Friday night, fans got a preview of our Cats as they got to work early and quickly. Squaring off with a respectable San Diego squad, it was senior midfielder Kelcey Cavarra who got things going for the Cats, when she would score on a strike around the 11th minute to put Arizona up 1-0.

Arizona didn’t waste much time extending on their lead, when sophomore forward Iyana Zimmerman would sneak one past the Toreros keeper just past the 22nd minute to make it 2-0, Cats.

Luckily, the offensive barrage didn’t stop there for the Cats. Still leading 2-0 in the second half, Arizona would add one more goal in the 54th minute, when senior defender Samantha Falasco found the net to make it 3-0, Wildcats!

And from then on, Arizona hit cruise control. Using a stifling defense, the Wildcats held San Diego to just five shots on the day, and ultimately took the match by a 3-0 final!

Now, Arizona will just have to wait until Thursday when they officially kick-off the 2019 season against Long Beach State!
