Former Wildcat Rob Gronkowski talks retirement and happiness
It’s been a busy few months following the retirement of former Wildcat Rob Gronkowski, and on Tuesday, he led a powerful discussion.
Who doesn’t love former Wildcat Rob Gronkowski? The fun-loving, goofy, high energy tight end that once dazzled fans in Tucson, has since become a prominent face in football over the years.
Originally a big, stocky kid from New York, the ‘Gronk’ as he’s been aptly known, was a superstar in the making the minute he stepped foot on campus here.

Despite playing in just 22 games, he would amass 1,197 yards on 75 receptions with 16 touchdowns. Simply put, the guy was dominant!
Well, following a stellar, but brief collegiate career, Rob would eventually take his talents to the NFL, where he would be drafted 42nd overall by the New England Patriots. Since then, the rest has been history!
Over the years, he has become to be one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game of football, but injuries over the years have surely slowed his production. After winning a third Super Bowl this past season, the Gronk decided to call it quits at just the age of 29.
Shocking as it was, ultimately these guys have to make the best decision for themselves, and for Rob, it seemed easy.
Believe it or not, inside this massive human being is a soul, a heart that too goes through trials and tribulations just like everyone else.
Sure we see the glitz and the glam, the media attention, the massive salaries, etc. but what we don’t see is the day-to-day struggle. The constant maintenance of keeping your body in tip-top shape, getting beat up physically, and putting your body, your mind and everything through physical hell.
That’s the part we can’t understand, and as fans it’s hard for us to quantify or truly understand what guys like Rob go through. Look no further than former No. 1 pick Andrew Luck walking away from football this past weekend.
Luckily for Rob, he’s finally on the mend, but it was instances like this that took a toll on him physically and mentally.
However, now since retiring from the game of football, he opened up to talk about why he stepped away from the game of football and really delivered a powerful message to fans about his health, the importance of his happiness and what his future could hold!
Just watch for yourself!
At Zona Zealots, we’re happy to see Rob in such good spirits and regardless of what he chooses to do, we wish him nothing but the best! As always, Bear Down, Rob and Bear Down, Arizona!
