TUCSON, AZ – It’s been a great start to the year for the Arizona Women’s Soccer team (4-0), as the Wildcats remain perfect after beating UC Irvine.

Things are definitely on the up and up for the Arizona Women’s Soccer team. Since taking over the team in 2012 (2013 being his first season), head coach Tony Amato has helped to elevate the reputation of the Wildcats, as well as the play, compiling a 67-40-15 record (not including this season).

However, now in his seventh season in Tucson, he’s got the Cats off to one of their best starts this year, and it’s exciting to see!

Fresh off a season in which Arizona finished the year 13-6-2, and went to the second round of the NCAA playoffs (their fourth Tournament appearance in six seasons), coach Amato should once again have a solid group.

They began the season nearly two weeks ago by taking on Weber State, after their opening game versus Long Beach State was cancelled. The Wildcats opened the year on a strong note, beating those other Wildcats by a dominating, 6-0 final!

Just two days later, Arizona would then take on Tennessee Tech, in which Arizona again came out unscathed, dominating from start to finish to earn the 3-0 win! That would then set-up for a huge showdown against Oklahoma this past weekend.

Taking to the pitch and coming out strong, it didn’t take long for the Cats to get on the board against the Sooners, as junior forward, Hannah Clifford, who was able to sneak one past the net at 8:40 in to make it 1-0 Cats.

Dueling back-and-forth for much of the second half, Arizona would finally put this one away for good, when Leah Carillo would find the net at 69:35 to make it 2-0, Arizona, eventually delivering the 2-0 victory over the Sooners!

Looking to close the week strong, Arizona would take to Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium again last weekend, facing UC Irvine on Sunday to close out the weekends action.

Still looking to keep their scoreless streak alive, Arizona would once again deliver a dominating performance, beating the Anteaters by a 4-0 final!

With the win, Arizona now moves to 4-0 on the year, and have still yet surrendered a goal on the season, outscoring opponents 15-0.

As for the Wildcats, they will return to action on Friday, when they take on Santa Clara in California, followed by a match-up against San Jose State on Sunday to close out the weekends string of games.

Arizona should be in a great position to win both games, and continue their successful start to the early, 2019 season!
