TUCSON, AZ – Staying hot to continue the 2019 season, the Arizona Volleyball team (7-2) extends their winning streak to five games!

Starting to find a rhythm to the 2019 season, the Arizona Volleyball team is riding high after winning their fifth, straight game this past Saturday!

With already a couple weeks into the Volleyball season, and the Wildcats are making some noise, and with great timing, too! After starting the year 2-2, and coming off a tough 3-1 loss to No. 2, and former NCAA runner-up Nebraska, the Wildcats are back on track.

Just nine games into the season, and head coach Dave Rubio once again has another competitive group. Led mostly by hitters Paige Whipple and Katie Smoot, together the two lead the Cats in kills with a total 198 on the year so far.

Over the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak, these two are dominating and at perfect timing too!

This past weekend, it was a packed, action-filled weekend, with the Cats playing in Kansas, as part of the Kansas Invitational.

Taking on the Jayhawks on Friday afternoon, Arizona dominated in straight-sets, winning the overall match 3-0, by finals of; 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23. It was Smoot and Whipple who would lead the match, earning 11 kills each, with redshirt junior Elizabeth Shelton adding nine of her own!

On Saturday morning, the dominance continued for the Cats, as they again won in straight sets by finals of 25-18, 25-7, and 25-16. This time it would be Shelton that led the way, earning an impressive 12 kills for herself, en route to Arizona’s dominating win!

Looking for the Invitational sweep, Arizona would once again take to the court, this time squaring off with Syracuse to close the weekends action. Again continuing their dominate form, the Cats would come away unscathed.

First it was the Wildcats winning the first set by a 25-20 final, followed by a 25-23 win and a 25-22 win to secure the match victory by a 3-0 final!

Once again it would be Whipple and Smoot who would lead the way, getting 12 kills each, with Devyn Cross adding 10 of her own as well!

With the win, Arizona improves to 7-2 on the year, and will have another busy weekend of action, when they play Alabama State, New Mexico State and Sacramento State.

Coach Rubio was able to address the Tucson media today, where he was able to talk about his teams’ play of late!
