Football is expanding here in the US, and with the XFL soon to make it’s debut again, a few Former Wildcats will get their chance to player after being drafted.

Who says the NFL is the only option to play professional football? Well, luckily for a few Former Wildcats, there is also the XFL which is soon making it’s return.

As you may recall, the XFL did exist back in 2001, as it was created as a joint venture between the World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE) and NBC. Nearly 20 years later, it is set to make its return.

Again it’ll feature just eight teams as it did before, but the teams will of course be all different. The goal is to make this league simpler, but still ran similarly as it was before.

This of course coming off the heels off the now defunct, Alliance of American Football (AAF) that last only but a few weeks.

With the inaugural season soon upon us, the teams of course needed to conduct a draft prior to the season, with the events being completed on Wednesday.

Following the draft, it appears a few former Wildcats have been drafted, with former Wildcat Scooby Wright being the most notable. The former Wildcat star was drafted in the fourth round, landing with the DC Defenders.

Additionally, former offensive lineman Gerhard de Beer was picked up in the sixth round by the Houston Roughnecks, as was offensive tackle Lene Maiava who was selected by the Los Angeles Wildcats in the eighth round!

Certainly a great feat for all three, considering all having seemingly bounced around in the NFL (mostly on practice squads), while Wright had a brief stint with the AAF’s Arizona Hotshots and the New England Patriots most recently.

As it stands, we will have some time before the season officially kicks-off in February, and with just 10 regular season scheduled games (no bye week), it will conclude near late April following a brief, two-week postseason.
