With homecoming week upon us and the Arizona Football program honoring the late Dick Tomey, they officially named the practice fields after him this week.

It’s a busy weekend for the Arizona Football team. With the Oregon State Beavers in town, and the Wildcats having homecoming, the program is partaking in quite a few festivities to hopefully get the fans excited.

First off, we’re all too aware that Arizona is bringing it back this weekend, in fact all the way back to the Desert Swarm days.

As you may recall, the school announced earlier in the week that the team would be wearing throwback uniforms this weekend to honor the Desert Swarm teams of the early 90s, but more importantly, the uniforms are to honor the late Dick Tomey.

And might we say they look great!

However, that’s not all. In addition to the uniforms, the school is honoring the legacy of coach Tomey by dedicating the practice fields after him.

In front of a special crowd consisting of family, friends, staff and former players, the University of Arizona held an event on Friday afternoon, in which the school unveiled a plaque and decor on the outside practice fields, naming those practice Fields after Dick Tomey to honor him after he unfortunately passed away this past summer.

The gesture is certainly a great one as Tomey impacted so many lives as a coach, and left a huge impact on the program, being the winningest head coach here of all-time.

While his legacy here will always live on, it’s great to see the school honor him, and continue to bring some of that past to the present.

As Tomey impacted so many lives, the program could certainly use a little bit of that right now, and hopefully moving forward, this move by the program can bring back some of the magic and toughness that were synonymous with his coaching style.

Listen to coach Sumlin as well as a few former players talk about coach Tomey and the impact he had here.

At Zona Zealots, we’re happy to see the school honor the former coach and are excited for all the festivities that have taken place and will take place this weekend. Hopefully the Cats can get a win for coach. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
