Arizona Football is hitting the Junior College ranks heavy for recruits
With the Arizona Football season winding down, their recruiting isn’t nearly finished with the Wildcats targeting the Junior College ranks heavily for recruits.
Even with it being a bye week for the Arizona Football team, their work isn’t nearly done as there are still three games left on the season, with Oregon up next.
However, in addition to preparing for Oregon, it appears the coaches and program are out looking to make offers and try and finalize the 2020 recruiting class, with National Signing Day still being a ways away. It’s worth noting, that the early signing period of course is from December 18-20.
Arizona Wildcats
As it stands, the team ranks 74th overall in recruiting according to 247Sports and has just 13 commits in the class, with an opportunity to likely add another eight or more easy.
But nonetheless, here is how the class stacks up so far;
- 3* TE – Drake Dabney (Cy Ranch High School – Cypress, TX)
- 3* CB – Alphonse Oywak (Kentwood High School – Kent, WA)
- 3* RB – Jalen John (Lakeridge High School – Lake Oswego, OR)
- 3* QB – Will Plummer (Gilbert High School – Gilbert, AZ)
- 3* CB – Khary Crump (Culver City High School – Culver City, CA)
- 3* DT – Dion Wilson (Orange Vista High School – Perris, CA)
- 3* OLB – Jabar Triplett (Southern University Lab School – Baton Rouge, LA)
- 3* OT – Woody Jean (Deerfield Beach High School – Deerfield Beach, FL)
- 3* TE/ WR – Roberto Miranda (Germany)
- 3* C – Josh Baker (Eureka High School – Eureka, MO)
- 3* WR – Dyelan Miller (Centennial High School – Peoria, AZ)
- 3* OT – Cedric Melton (Klein Cain High School – Houston, TX)
- 2* K – Tyler Loop (Lovejoy High School – Lucas, TX)
In this class, all the current commits are high school players, with four of the 13 commits being defensive players so far. With the struggles we’ve seen defensively over the years, I feel like the Wildcats really should be filling the rest of the class with defensive players.
Granted the Wildcats don’t have a defensive coordinator currently, so there are some challenges there, but the best way to get an immediate fix on defense, and to give the new coordinator some time would be to target more players from the junior college ranks.
Why? Well, junior college players at least bring some college experience and are certainly more mature physically coming in to be able to contribute immediately.
And well, if you’ve been paying attention via social media, it seems the coaching staff has been thinking the exact same thing Making offers and to our appeasement, it’s to a lot of junior college players!
Some of those guys with recent offers would be;
- Junior College DT – Ami Finau (Independence C.C – Independence, KS)

- Junior College CB/ DB – Khyree Jackson (Fort Scott C.C. – Fort Scott, KS)

- Junior College DE – DeVere Levelston (Tyler C.C. – Tyler, TX)

- Junior College OL – Jeremy Flax (Independence C.C. – Independence, KS)

- Junior College DE – Mosiah Nasili-Kite (Independence C.C. – Independence, KS)
We know that the Wildcats are unlikely to get every single one of the players they offered, nonetheless, it’s great to see the effort by the staff, and it’s certainly great to see the direction they’re heading in when it comes to recruiting.
At Zona Zealots, we’re excited to watch the progress being made on the recruiting trail and can’t wait to see how this class turns out. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
