TUCSON, AZ – It was a busy Saturday for the Arizona Soccer team (12-6-1, 5-5-1), as the Wildcats took on TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Arizona head coach Tony Amato is certainly building a legacy here in Tucson, as the Arizona Soccer team made their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

It was another successful season for the Wildcats, after Arizona made the tournament and the Wildcats were looking to get off to another solid start in this one.

On Saturday, the Wildcats finally returned to the pitch, kicking off the first round action of in the tournament with TCU in town yet again this season.

As you may recall, Arizona won the match-up between these two squads earlier in the season, with the Cats coming away with the 4-3 victory.

However, beating a team twice in one season is never easy, but nonetheless, that Wildcats were going to come out fighting like they always do.

From the start, we could tell we were going to be in store for a good one. With both teams trying to stay aggressive in the first half, neither squad was able to gain an advantage, coming up short in their offensive attempts, seemingly trading offensive possessions and shots.

After 45 minutes, we would be knotted at 0-0 entering halftime.

Looking to continue their strong play, Arizona would stay aggressive in the second half, finally breaking through in the 62nd minute, when senior forward Brynn Moga would find the back of the net on an assist from Iyana Zimmerman to make it 1-0 Cats.

Luckily, that’s all that Arizona would need in this one, as they would eventually hold on to win by a 1-0 final!

The Wildcats would get big play from virtually everywhere, but it was Arizona freshman goalkeeper Hope Hisey who would come up big, gathering seven saves in this one to help deliver the Cats’ 10th shutout of the season!

With the win, Arizona advances, and will now take on the fourth-seeded Penn State Nittany Lions in the second round of the NCAA Tournament!

Listen to coach Amato break down his teams’ performance on Saturday!
