Arizona Basketball star Devonaire Doutrive is dismissed from the team
A few weeks after being suspended by Sean Miller, Arizona Basketball star Devonaire Doutrive has now been dismissed by the team.
It just wouldn’t be an Arizona Basketball season without a little bit of drama. For those that need a reminder, star wing Devonaire Doutrive was suspended from the team indefinitely just a few weeks ago for a violation of team rules.
Not really knowing much about the situation, the news certainly came off as shocking, especially as many were expecting big things from Doutrive this year.
Arizona Wildcats
Luckily he was finally able to return to action just last week when Arizona took on San Jose State at home and made a great debut, scoring 12 points in his return.
Hoping for some normalcy, it seemed as if things would be back on track, especially as Doutrive would again make an appearance last night in the Wildcats’ gritty win over South Dakota State at home.
However, as we’ve seemed to have grown accustomed to, it’s that the good news never tends to last long when it comes to Arizona Basketball.
Now just three game into his season, Doutrive’s time with the Wildcats is over as the school announced that he will no longer be a part of the team following a violation of team rules.
Unfortunately, the news broke on Friday afternoon, and head coach Sean Miller released this statement:
"“Effective immediately, Devonaire Doutrive has been dismissed from our men’s basketball program for violation of team rules. He will continue to receive academic aid and support through the remainder of the current semester. We wish him well in the next steps of his academic and athletic career.”"
The move is unfortunate, but as a program and as fans we can’t help but move on. We will say his athleticism and play making ability will be missed!
Through the three games Doutrive played in this year, he averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
At Zona Zealots, we will miss Doutrive, but we got to move on and hope the Wildcats can still be okay without him. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
