No. 2 – Arizona knocks ASU out of the Rose Bowl Pt. 2

When: November 23, 1985

Outcome: Arizona won 16-13

Where: Tempe, AZ

The rivalry game where legend of Arizona kicker Max Zendejas was born!

The Sun Devils came into this one at 8-2, with a great chance at making the Rose Bowl. From the start ASU looked motivated, jumping out to a 13-3 lead that would put pressure on Arizona.

Luckily Arizona wouldn’t go quietly, as the team would do what they tend to do best, Bear Down!

The rally started when ASU would muff a punt deep in their own territory, that subsequently led to a touchdown from Arizona’s Don Be’Ans as he fell on the football in the end zone to pull the Cats within three points.

Later, Zendejas would tie the game at 13-13 after connecting on 53-yard field goal attempt with 5:29 remaining.

Needing some more heroics from their kicker, Zendejas would come up big again, this time booting a 32-yard field with 1:43 remaining to complete the Arizona comeback, while officially knocking ASU out of the Rose Bowl for the second time in four years.
