Former Wildcat Earl Mitchell comes out of retirement to play in playoffs
With the NFL season officially over, now starts the playoffs for the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers with former Wildcat Earl Mitchell set to rejoin the team!
Things are heating up in the NFL as teams will kick-off the playoffs this weekend. For former Wildcat Earl Mitchell, he will be looking to get back into the flow of things, especially as he re-joins the San Francisco 49ers.
For those who maybe didn’t catch it, Earl actually had announced his retirement earlier this year, having not played in a single game for 2019. After just nine seasons with three different teams, the veteran nose tackle had called it quits.

That is until this past Tuesday! With the 49ers preparing for their first NFL playoff game next weekend, it was announced by the organization via social media that they would actually be bringing Mitchell out of retirement, immediately activating him for the playoffs.
No doubt a move made by San Francisco that will offset the season-ending injuries to D.J. Jones (ankle) and Jullian Taylor (knee). But having a solid, veteran nose tackle around during the playoffs can’t hurt!
With San Francisco off this week due to the bye, that will give Earl plenty of time to get in shape and get re-integrated to the team.
Just 32 years old, Mitchell has appeared in 130 games as a defensive tackle in his career, and during that time, he has accumulated 267 tackles (163 solo), 24 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Not bad numbers if you ask me!
As for now, they will wait to see who they face following this weekend. With the No. 1 seed in hand, the 49ers will either play the No. 6 Minnesota Vikings, or the winner of the game between No. 4 Philadelphia and No. 5 Seattle.
One things for sure, Earl will be ready!
