Navigating their way through the off-season, the Arizona Football program has made another new hire, this time it’s Stan Eggen as their defensive line coach.

The new, Arizona Football staff is finally coming together in Tucson. Weeks after hiring Paul Rhoads as their new defensive coordinator, the Wildcats have made their second hire, this one being Stan Eggen to become the new defensive line coach.

Let me start by saying that on paper, this a very solid hire! And no this isn’t a puff piece, everything is perfect, rainbows and butterflies, etc. regarding the current state of Arizona Football, but Arizona needed to make some big hires, and so far they are doing so!

To be blunt, things have been abysmal these past two years, and when you look at the Wildcats’ record under Kevin Sumlin, there’s no getting around that. To make matters worse, the recruiting has been sub-par compared to previous Arizona recruiting classes.

Football fans like myself have been in need of some good news or positivity, and well finally, it seems like there are some good things happening for the Arizona Football program.

For starters, we’ve hired Rhoads, who by all accounts seems to be a rather solid hire at defensive coordinator, and we gave a bit of a breakdown as to why we feel he is a good addition to the staff.

But with Rhoads now on staff, the Wildcats announced on Monday, that Eggen will become the new defensive line coach for the Cats.

So why are we big on this hire? Let’s look at the facts!

Coming in, Eggen has over 40 years of coaching experience, and in his career, has made appearances at Iowa State, Texas A&M and Alabama. Along the way, he has mentored numerous successful NFL players like; Von Miller, Michael Bennett, Red Bryant, IK Enemkpali and Johnny Jolly among others.

Having coached the previous four seasons at New Mexico, Eggen will now come to Tucson, and will have quite the job to turn things around, but with a track record like his, this should be seen as a great hire for Arizona!
