Arizona Football releases full schedule for the 2020 season
Just weeks after the official end to the 2019 Arizona Football season, now here comes the upcoming schedule for the Wildcats for the 2020 season!
I know, it seems like we haven’t had enough time to fully recover from the disappointment that was the 2019 season. Nonetheless the show must go on for the Arizona Football team, especially as the Cats begin preparations for 2020.
Since taking over in 2018, head coach Kevin Sumlin has had a tough time reproducing the success he had while at Houston and Texas A&M.
Arizona Wildcats
In his first year in Tucson, the Cats struggled with inconsistencies, especially as they blew a late lead against ASU that would have had them bowling. Instead the Wildcats settled for a 5-7 finish.
In year two, things seemed to regress. Despite the Cats starting 4-1 on the season, they would ultimately limp to the finish line, losing seven-straight games to end the year 4-8 overall.
Well now we enter year three under Sumlin, which means another year into his system. Arizona is hoping to see marked improvement, and with three new defensive coaches, perhaps that can happen this season! However, getting to 6-6 or better won’t be easy.
With that said, here is a brief preview of the 2020 season, especially as the Wildcats have now released their schedule!
August 29 – Hawaii (Week 0)
September 5 – Portland State
September 12 – Stanford
September 19 – @ Texas Tech
October 3 – @ UCLA
October 9 (Fri) – Colorado
October 17 – USC
October 23 (Fri) – @ Washington
October 31 – Oregon
November 7 – @ Utah
November 21 – @ Oregon State
November 28 – Arizona State
From first glance, the schedule is a bit similar to last year, where the Wildcats have a ‘Week 0’ game and they will also have two bye weeks. Interestingly enough though, the Cats will have two Friday and will face Oregon on Halloween, which will be homecoming.
On paper it looks like Arizona has a great chance to start 2-0 maybe even 3-0 depending on how Stanford looks this season, but then it gets tougher from there. I do think Texas Tech, UCLA and Colorado are winnable, but not easy games. Then comes a brutal, four-game stretch of USC, Washington, Oregon and Utah!
Getting to six wins is going to be tough, so we will see what happens! Nonetheless we are excited to see preparations for the 2020 season begin!
At Zona Zealots, we’re hopeful for better football in 2020, but the challenge is on! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
