Although National Signing Day is over, the Arizona Football team had one more surprise adding Defensive End Paris Shand to the class of 2020.

With things winding down for the Arizona Football team for the 2020 recruiting cycle, it appears the Cats weren’t done, adding defensive end Paris Shand to help bolster this class.

Although National Signing Day happened just days ago, there was still a belief that the Wildcats could still be in play for a player or two, and Shand was certainly one of them. And on Saturday, among family and friends in his hometown of Ontario, Canada, Paris made his announcement, officially picking the Wildcats!

Rated as a three-star defensive end, Shand was a standout at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT this past year, and blew up enough to hold offers from; Arizona, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Boston College most notably.

While he joins Arizona as the 19th commitment overall taken by the Wildcats, Shand is another defensive prospect in the class, making him the eighth commit in the class that comes from the defensive side of the ball. More interesting, is that he is also the fourth defensive line prospect taken by the Cats, a clear indication of where Arizona feels they have lacked.

Standing an impressive 6-feet-5-inches and 240 pounds, Paris has good size with the potential to even get bigger.

Paris is a big kid with big upside, and this commitment should excite fans! A bit of a late bloomer, he definitely adds more size along the defensive line, and the biggest thing is that with a year or two in the weight program, he will fill out and hopefully become an impact player for the Cats.

Nonetheless, this is a kid with plenty of talent and film that oozes potential!

For starters, he is long and athletic, possessing the ideal size for a defensive, so long as he can add more weight.

He moves well, he’s able to get leverage off the line of scrimmage and generate pressure quickly and creates a lot of disruption in the backfield.

Should he continue to develop under defensive line coach Stan Eggen, and I think this kid could turn out to be a steal!

At Zona Zealots, we’re excited for the addition of Paris and hope he continues to develop to become the talent that we know he is! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
