Following a tremendous 2019-20 season, the No. 8 Arizona Hockey team will take on No. 9 Illinois in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament.

Hockey is alive and thriving in the Desert! After another impressive run that led to a second-straight West Coast Hockey League championship, the No. 8 Arizona Hockey team is heading back to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament!

If you haven’t been paying attention to what’s happening in the last couple years at the Tucson Convention Center, then you’ve been missing out!

After serving as an assistant coach at Robert Morris University Illinois, Chad Berman agreed to come to Tucson, taking over the Wildcat program in 2014! Since then, he has has been steadily improving the program year over year!

Although the process and turnaround may have been a bit slow, the process finally paid off, as the Wildcats made program history this past year by winning their first ever WCHL Title, and once again returning to the ACHA Tournament!

Returning a large contingency of their talent for 2019-20, expectations were high coming into season, especially as the team came in pre-season ranked No. 10!

Perhaps not surprising though is that, the Wildcats played to their expectations this year, putting together a tremendous run, en route to their second-straight WCHL Title. Perhaps even more importantly though, was that the Wildcats won their third straight Cactus Cup Championship (head-to-head series against ASU).

So despite the regular season success, now the real work starts for the Wildcats! And on Wednesday, we learned the teams’ fate as they now prepare of the annual ACHA Tournament!

Kicking off the second round of the 20-team Tournament, the Wildcats will open up play on Saturday March 21, when they take on No. 9 Illinois.

Should the Wildcats win and advance, they will take on the winner between either No. 1 Adrian College, No. 16 Aquinas College or No. 17 Calvin University.

Either way, we’re excited for the upcoming hockey action!
