Arizona Basketball grad transfer from Cornell, Stone Gettings, earned himself the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, first time ever a Wildcat has received this honor.

Stone Gettings has been “getting” it done in the classroom and on the court. Since he joined the Arizona Basketball program, he’s transitioned from coming off the bench to being a key start fo the Wildcats. Even with a grueling college basketball season, Gettings has found a way to perform at a high level as a student-athlete. For his efforts, he has become the first Wildcat ever to earn Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year!!

After playing basketball and going to school at Cornell for three seasons, Gettings decided to take his skills out west. It took him no time to make an immediate impact as a transfer under head coach Sean Miller. In 25 games played, he has started in 14 of them. He is averaging 6.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Plus, Gettings is shooting 50% from the field and 38.5% from three, which he leads the team in (technically walk-on Matt Weyand leads the team, but has only made 3 of 7 attempts).

He is one of the Wildcats’ key big men. Listed at 6 foot 9 and 240 pounds, Gettings’s versatility makes him a valuable asset to this team. He can knock down the corner three, but also find gaps in the middle of the paint when the Wildcats are facing zone defense and knock it down. In addition, Gettings can also score down lown in a variety of ways. He’s got good handles and also is a good passer.

When the Wildcats were without Gettings for a short while due to a facial fracture, his absence was felt. He brings versatility, experience, size, and strength to this team. When he gets going, this team is a dangerous team. Not only is he valuable on offense, but on defense too.

When he isn’t hitting clutch three and in the middle of the paint swishers, Gettings is getting it done in the classroom. He is looking to complete his graduate studies in accounting from the Eller School of Management. Not just completing, but dominating with a 4.00 GPA.

Earning such an accomplishment says a lot about the type of individual Gettings is. Being able to balance studies and basketball isn’t as easy as people think. Playing for an NCAA Division I school and expected to be an impact player every game, but at the same type focus on keeping grades up, that’s easier said than done.
