Despite the up and down year for the Arizona Basketball team (20-10, 10-7), the Wildcats have a critical game against the Washington Huskies (14-16, 4-13).

It’s been a roller coaster season for the Arizona Basketball team (20-10, 10-7), as the Wildcats will finally conclude their regular season on Saturday night on ESPN when they take on the Washington Huskies (14-16, 4-13).

After dropping three in a row, the Cats got back in the win column on Thursday night after a solid second-half performance against Washington State. While momentum and confidence is great, the Huskies will offer a tougher challenge and will be looking to play spoilers on Senior Night.

Never mind that Washington has been struggling all year, the Huskies just came off an impressive road win over ASU on Thursday night and should have Arizona’s full attention. Led by Freshman Isaiah Stewart, the Huskies’ size & length could give the Wildcats problems, especially with rebounding. The Cats must play with focus & hunger, and harness the home crowd’s energy.

The importance of the last home game of the year can’t be understated. Arizona needs all the confidence they can muster heading into the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas next week. With Josh Green back from injury, Nico Mannion finding his confidence of late, and Zeke Nnaji’s solid all around play, the powerful freshman trio are looking forward to their first (and possibly only) post-season experience. But first they must handle Washington.

It is also Senior Night, which hardly has the same meaning that it used to because so many players are leaving school early to turn pro. Although Max Hazzard will not be participating in this year’s festivities for personal reasons, Chase Jeter is expected to join in the celebration despite facing suspension.

This year Coach Miller decided to honor the Seniors before the tip off rather than after the game, hoping to create a raucous college basketball environment!

It’s worth noting that despite how erratic and inconsistent the play has been from Arizona this season, the Wildcats won the last time these two teams met in late January, edging out the close 75-72 victory.

However, being just 6-4 in their last 10 games, it’s hard to anticipate which team will show up. And despite the growing pains of the season, there STILL is more basketball to play. With a victory over the Huskies and a solid performance in Vegas next week, I honestly feel that this team can make it to the second weekend of the national tournament. Because different match ups make sports what they are… unpredictable.

At Zona Zealots we will always support our Wildcat teams. I read a lot of the comments by fans, some are ridiculous and some are understandable. But like life in general, things don’t always go as we plan but we have to keep trying. Let’s come together and cheer on our team(s) until the very last buzzer of the very last game! Bear Down Arizona!!
