TUCSON, AZ – It’s been a wild 24 hours, and after the growing concern of Coronavirus, all sports, including Arizona Athletics have been cancelled.

We’re in very surreal times right now. Making waves in the sports communities and hitting home here with Arizona Athletics even, are the effects of the growing concerns of Coronavirus.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, first the NBA had suspended their season, which resulted in a slow trickle of other organizations and events being cancelled.

Yesterday was a whirlwind of events, especially as the Pac-12 announced that they would be cancelling the Conference Tournament, followed by the NCAA announcing that there would be no March Madness this year.

But now, the NCAA and Conferences has taken it a step further and have decided to cancel all Spring seasons for teams, eliminating the chances for the Spreads of the virus.

At this point, it seems as if the decision may be a bit extreme, but given the circumstances, I can’t help but think we had to have known that a decision like this would soon be coming.

While I appreciate the proper safety precautions and measures taking place to not only protect the student athletes, but fans as well, I do think the outcomes are unfortunate, especially for the Student Athletes who will likely not ever get the chance to play in their respective sports again.

Assuming the NCAA wouldn’t grant all the seniors affected with a chance to come back, I would assume that at this point, those senior seasons are over, which is very unfortunate. Particularly for the ones whose seasons were just beginning (Baseball, Softball, etc.).

Now as we operate in a world temporarily without sports, no sporting events for towns like Tucson in particular whose economy sees a boost from athletics, it will be felt.

Especially as the school was set to play host to the first two rounds of the Women’s NCAA Tournament.

Either way, hopefully when we look back at this decision, it won’t be with regret, but either way, we pray for the continued health and safety of everyone! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
