Making more news amidst the Corona Virus scare, the NCAA has officially announced a halt to all recruiting activities starting immediately.

The insanity continues in the World of sports! As I’m sure you’re familiar with by now, it’s the ongoing saga regarding the Corona Virus, which has now extended to the NCAA as well.

Last week, the NCAA announced a cancellation to all Spring sports starting immediately. Those cancellations even included an unprecedented, albeit slightly predictable cancellation of March Madness!

But still making waves, are numerous other decisions made by the NCAA, the most recent being the cancellation of all recruiting activities.

I would be lying if I said this is a surprise, and given all that we know so far about the current climate of things, this makes sense.

You’re starting to see a slow down in national travel as it is, and given that there has been a wide spread response to help combat the spread of Corona Virus, and this is a decision we had to figure was coming.

With recruiting, there is a lot of traveling involved and a lot of face-to-face interaction. Something that is the complete opposite of what the CDC and White House have been recommending as “Social Distancing”.

Naturally, this should extend to all facets within every day life, which would so happen to include recruiting as well.

As per the NCAA, here is what the temporary ban reads: “The council leadership put in place an immediate ban on in-person recruiting for Division I coaches. Additionally, the group advised to suspend any official and unofficial visits to campus from prospective student-athletes. This recruiting dead period will be in place until at least April 15, at which time the Division I Council Coordination Committee will evaluate. Telephone calls and written correspondence are allowed during dead periods.

This certainly does hurt in a way, considering the Basketball team is looking to finalize its class for 2020, and the football was just starting its grind for the 2021 class.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out and to see how much of an impact it will truly have.
