Santa Clara’s Trey Wertz is another transfer target for Arizona Basketball

Trying to make more moves on the recruiting front, the Arizona Basketball team is also interested in another potential transfer in Santa Clara’s Trey Wertz.

It’s going to be a long off-season, and as the Arizona Basketball team looks to get things settled for 2020-21, another target on their recruiting list appears to be Trey Wertz.

A combo guard hailing from Santa Clara, not long after Trey announced he would be transferring from the Broncos, a number of schools immediately reached out showing interest. Those schools range from; Arizona State, Butler, Minnesota, Stanford, NC State, North Carolina and Arizona among numerous others.

Standing a sturdy, 6-feet-4-inches and 185 pounds, Wertz is a solid guard with some big game. Trey was arguably Santa Clara’s best player last season.

While with the Broncos, the sophomore finished his season by averaging 11.9 points, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting nearly 49 percent from the field.

A former West Coast Conference All-Freshman team member, this is exactly the type of player that would likely do well in Sean Miller’s system if he were to come here.

First off, Trey has good size and play making ability. He’s heady, smart and would likely be with the program for the duration of his collegiate career, all things I think Arizona desperately needs. And to me, those are the type of players Arizona needs more so, rather than strictly just one-and-done’s.

So what’s to like about Trey? Well, he’s also a very sharp shooter from outside, and after converting on 40 percent of his attempts from three, he would allow the Wildcats to continue to space the court.

Likely having to sit out a year as per transfer rules, he will be able to continue to develop and adjust to the system he will be playing in.
