With days to go until the debut of HBO’s Documentary called ‘The Scheme’, don’t anticipate any new, damning information for Arizona Basketball.

I know, it’s agonizing without any sports out there, and to be quite honest with you, I’ve been going a little crazy myself! But nonetheless, with little sports news going on, media pundits are gravitating towards Arizona Basketball.

In case you’ve somehow missed it, it’s been over two years since the ‘Pay for Play’ scandal rocked college basketball, specifically for Arizona. Yet somehow, with virtually no new news in months, many are still clinging to updates regarding our Wildcats, longing for their demise.

Well, with days until the debut of HBO’s ‘The Scheme’, former felon and wannabe agent Christian Dawkins takes to his two-hour documentary, where he discusses what happened during the college corruption scandal.

Now, if you’ve been paying attention to social media of recent, you will see writers like; John Wilner, Adam Zagoria, etc. all essentially saying this is the end for Miller, that he shouldn’t be coaching anymore, or that this documentary is going to potentially be detrimental to his future employment.

My response, in a word to Wilner and the likes would be, sensationalism. If there were ever a time to generate more clicks and views surrounding the Documentary, it would be now.

So what issues do I have with what’s being said? Well, aside from there being many omissions of facts, there are many key points that people are seemingly forgetting or completely disregarding…

  • It’s been over two years since the news initially broke, and the FBI already went through their trial. Sentences were made and in case you needed a reminder again, Sean Miller was not sentenced.
  • Furthermore, the tapes that will be shown in this Documentary, are just audio recordings of the transcripts that have already been presented in the trials. The FBI already went through those transcripts, and again, look at the point above that there was nothing presented that got Miller in trouble.
  • Additionally, let’s all remember who is presenting all the information here… the reformed convict who is getting paid by HBO to share his side of the story, who already had admitted to lying during his trial. Having difficulties understanding why this is all lunacy? Read that sentence again!
  • Lastly, THERE IS NO TAPE WHERE MILLER TALKED ABOUT PAYMENT TO DEANDRE AYTON! Despite ESPN’s best attempt to validate their false story, still no tape exists, also Dawkins already admitted that no tape ever existed.

While this documentary will be a bad look for Arizona, again with the aforementioned things, this really doesn’t provide any new information into what happened. It merely is reiterating what we already know.

Personally, I find the sensationalism and ‘vendetta’ against Arizona by the media to be particularly gross, and my personal opinion is that I doubt this documentary does anymore harm.

More. On Arizona Basketball. light

Either way, I will still be interested to see what comes from this, but doubt it’s the bombshell like some are suggesting. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
