Sorry Miller haters, Arizona is not moving on from Sean Miller

Following the release of HBO’s ‘The Scheme’, it’s unlikely that Arizona Basketball will make a move on Sean Miller any time soon.

Under not so shocking news, it’s been three days since the airing of HBO’s ‘The Scheme’, and despite some of the loud chatter regarding the employment status of Sean Miller, it’s unlikely the school will make a move anytime soon.

Sorry to those who detest his existence and think he’s tarnished Arizona’s “sterling” image (FYI – he took over the program when it was facing probation from the Lute years), but he’s not going anywhere at this point.

From what we learned and now know from the airing of the Documentary, it’s that the optics look bad and Miller has a bigger potty mouth than we initially thought. However, there’s nothing new that came from that, that we didn’t already know.

Meaning, all that we’ve learned previously via the testimony, transcripts, etc. was pretty much reiterated in the documentary, or was reinterpreted from the view of Christian Dawkins.

Thinking that this was going to be some bombshell of a documentary that was going to do Arizona, its coaches and the program in, was a bit short sighted.

At this point, the University would be absolutely foolish to make any sort of change in coaches based off that documentary. To me, if the school were to have made a move in response to the investigation (just for the record, that’s not my stance regarding Miller), it should have been when the news broke. Firing now based off no new information would be disastrous.

Additionally, let’s look at the actual situation here. The University is in a world of hurt financially. We are still paying off the upgrades made to facilities, so there is a major shortage of cash.

Also keep in mind, the school could be on the hook for another $5 million if they are to let go of football head coach Kevin Sumlin after the 2020 season. We’re not Texas, we’re not Alabama, we’re not Ohio State, we don’t have a huge influx of money.

Add to that, that the school had to cancel Spring sport seasons, the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams didn’t get to participate in the NCAA Tournament and the money shortfall becomes even more daunting.

So given all that, we are really in no position to move off coach Miller, even if there was a sizable outside push by alumni/ boosters to let him go right now. So, I am sorry to those who can’t stand him, but he’s not going anytime soon.

Anyways, at Zona Zealots, we’re just hopeful we can get back to the times of no drama. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
