Arizona Athletics wins the annual Territorial Cup Series
Even with a shortened year for Arizona Athletics, the Wildcats have come away victorious in the annual, Territorial Cup Series against ASU!
For those in need of some good news, well you got it! Despite the 2019-20 athletic seasons being shortened, Arizona Athletics will still walk away as victors in the Territorial Cup Series.
Every year, the rivals compete not just on the gridiron, but also the hardwood, the tracks and the diamonds, competing head-to-head to see who will win the Territorial Cup Series.
Arizona Wildcats
With the Sun Devils having won five of the last six Series, it was time for the Wildcats to step up and retain it!
Even though the baseball, softball and tennis teams among others won’t get the chance to compete, Arizona was in the lead at 7.5 points to 4.5 points, before everything was halted due to the Corona Virus.
Because of that, they will get the Series victory!
To recap, here’s essentially how the Series was scored this year!
- ASU Volleyball earns 0.5 points after beating Arizona 3-0
- Arizona earned 2 points after finishing ahead of ASU in Cross Country in Corvallis, OR
- Women’s Soccer extended Arizona’s lead to 3-0.5 after beating the Sun Devils at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium by a 1-0 final.
- ASU earned a point by beating Arizona Football 24-14 in Sun Devil Stadium.
- ASU earned another 0.5 points when they got the sweep against Arizona Volleyball with a 3-2 win in Tempe.
- Arizona Women’s Basketball earned a whole point by sweeping the Sun Devils on the hard wood this year!
- Arizona Basketball split the head-to-head match-up versus ASU Basketball, so both squads earned half a point.
- ASU earned a point after finishing ahead of Arizona in the Women’s Pac-12 Swimming & Diving Championship
- However, Arizona earned a point right back when the Men would finish ahead of ASU at the Pac-12 Swimming & Diving Championship
- The Wildcats would sweep the Devils at the Men and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Pac-12 Championship!
- Leading 7.5 points to 3.5 points, ASU would earn their last point of the series after they would beat Arizona Gymnastics by 0.225 points in Tucson.
Even though some will say it’s an incomplete year, I still say there was plenty of body of work that had been done to still name a winner here!
Plus, given the year we’ve had so far, and I think this is something that was definitely needed! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
