With schools and athletic departments hurting amid the Corona Virus pandemic, Arizona Athletics will have its coaches see a 20 percent pay cut.

With the effects of the Corona Virus pandemic still ongoing, things are getting a little tough for everyone, even Arizona Athletics.

As you may have been following, the University of Arizona Athletic Department will see a $7.5 million shortfall this year, and there’s doubting, that a large impact of that has been because of the cancelled seasons, in addition to the standard operating costs that would have been there anyways.

Even more frustrating, is seeing the UofA battle budget issues just in the different colleges itself, putting some people on furlough. But luckily, we haven’t really yet seen any sort of similar ramifications extend to the Athletic Department to some degree as well.

True the Athletic Department operates on its own independent budget, apart from the University itself, so they are a little difficult to compare, but either way, the point is that the Corona Virus pandemic has caused some serious issues.

Luckily, it seems like the Arizona Athletic Department is doing its best to stay ahead and save money during this time.

Making news on Wednesday afternoon, the Department announced that head coaches at Arizona will see a 20 percent salary reduction, which will save Arizona Athletics an estimated $1.46 million just from the five highest paid coaches on campus alone!

To me, it’s certainly a good move to see that the coaches are willing to be flexible during a difficult time. I know it’s asking a lot for some, but right now, it’s all about togetherness, and how everyone can help in order to ensure the continued losses aren’t as significant, especially with no sports still happening, and no guarantee a football season will even happen!
