Making news just days ago, Arizona Women’s Basketball head coach Adia Barnes announces her pregnancy on The Eye on the Ball radio show.

It’s been a busy off-season not only for the Arizona Women’s Basketball team, but more specifically, head coach Adia Barnes.

Putting in work in recruiting, Adias has not only signed a talented class, but she is also bringing in some valuable transfers, and is also having Aari McDonald return for her senior season.

However, it seems like all that pales in comparison to the big news that Barnes revealed just days ago. Appearing on the Eye on the Ball radio show on KVOI, Barnes also was also on air with Arizona women’s golf coach Laura Ianello, and Phoenix Mercury assistant Julie Brase-Hairgrove (Lute Olson’s granddaughter).

It was on air that Barnes revealed that she is pregnant, and is due in September! So it looks like the Wildcat family is getting even bigger!

Barnes already has a full plate, and it looks like it’s going to get even fuller in the coming months with another child on the way!

In her interview and as noted by All Sports Tucson’s Javier Morales, Barnes said she “found out the day after the UCLA game (on Jan. 31) — that’s the day I found out I was pregnant,” she said. Apparently Barnes had kept the pregnancy a secret until finally revealing the news to her team just recently. Hard to say if the pregnancy will have any impact on her coaching duties, but the news is certainly exciting.

Barnes is steadily building Arizona into a solid program, the team will enter the season with substantial expectations, and she will have to do it while raising another little one. However, if any coach were to do it, she would be one of the few!

At Zona Zealots, we would like to congratulate coach Barnes and her husband and current assistant coach, Salvo Coppa on the pregnancy and wish them both the best! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
