With the Arizona Basketball team trying to finalize their roster for the 2020-21 season, the Wildcats will have local product Grant Weitman walk-on.

Hard work pays off! And well, that’s certainly the case for local Tucson basketball star Grant Weitman, as he will officially walk-on with the Arizona Basketball team.

As we all learned just days ago, that the standout from Salpointe Catholic High School, which is just a few minutes from campus, is being reward with an opportunity to be a walk-on for the Cats.

Being a local product who grew up a Wildcat fan, this just makes it all the sweeter for Grant!

Interestingly enough, Grant’s ties to Arizona run deep. As noted by Bruce Pascoe in the Arizona Daily Star, his grandfather Paul (Weitman) was actually a personal friend to Lute Olson.

Heck, even his former teammates on the Lancers, Jordan Gainey and Braden Miller are sons to former Arizona assistant Justin Gainey and current head coach, Sean Miller respectively.

So while the Wildcats are likely all finished on the recruiting front, Grant will certainly help bolster the bench, and will be the next walk-on for us to fall in love with!

So what are the Wildcats exactly getting in Grant? Well, he is certainly a talented guard, and standing a solid 6-feet-3-inches, he’s a good-sized point guard overall.

He’s a very heady and hardworking player that helped lead the Lancers not only to an impressive 30-1 record, but he was a big part in helping them win the 2019-20 Arizona State Basketball Title.

As a senior, Weitman averaged 15.9 points, 3.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game according to Maxpreps, and his experience will prove to be invaluable when he steps foot on campus, and begins competing in practice!

At Zona Zealots, we would like to congratulate Grant on getting the opportunity to walk-on and wish him the best as he competes at the next level! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
