Grant Gunnell has highest PFF Passing Grade for a freshman
Despite a season filled with turmoil and disappointment for Arizona Football, at least there was some good news as quarterback Grant Gunnell gets highest PFF Passing Grades for a freshman.
It’s been months since the 2019 Arizona Football season has ended, and at this point I think we can all say we’re all just glad it’s over. However, perhaps the one of the few bright spots on the season was the play of freshman Grant Gunnell.
As we all saw, it was a season of ups and downs, but even in the eight games played by Gunnell, the Houston native gave plenty of fans optimism for the future.
Arizona Wildcats
Grant would appear in eight games for the Wildcats, completing 101 passes out of 155 attempts for 1,239 yards for nine touchdowns to just one interception. That’s also to go along with his 14 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown as well.
And because of his performance, Grant was given the highest passing grade (85.4) for a freshman according to PFF, finishing tied for first with North Carolina’s Sam Howell, and ahead of USC’s Kedon Slovis and UCF’s Dillon Gabriel.
So while the stats and the ranking are all great, it however didn’t equate to wins as Arizona stumbled to a 4-8 finish.
However, now the eyes are on the future and in particular Grant.
As we all know by now, it’s that Grant was specifically recruited for Noel Mazzone’s offense, and as the Texas state high school record holder for passing yards and touchdowns, the future is indeed bright for him while under center.
At this point, the expectations for Arizona Football are relatively low, with the a few of the weapons the Wildcats will have on offense, in addition to the scheme and system and perhaps Grant could flourish and help the Wildcats exceed those expectations.
At Zona Zealots, we are certainly optimistic the Wildcats can get it done and can’t wait to see what else Grant can do. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
