Who doesn’t love a little rivalry smack talk? Especially with the TBT Tournament going on already, ASU has to be crazy in thinking “Guard U” could win.

As we are witnessing currently, it’s the ever so popular TBT Tournament that happens every summer. And over the years, we have been dazzled by some competitive summer basketball, especially as former Wildcat Kyle Fogg and his team Overseas Elite had typically dominated once before.

While some things have changed, some have stayed the same. Fogg is not playing in this Tournament, however, his former team Overseas Elite is on the verge of possibly playing in yet another championship, after a quarterfinals win over Ryan Luther’s team, Heard That.

Well with the on-going action, former ASU guard Shannon Evans took to social media, seemingly suggesting that ASU needs a TBT Team, even dubbing it Guard U Elite? Excuse me? Barf!

Maybe I’m overreacting, but I still can’t fathom a school with virtually no basketball success or history suddenly calling themselves Guard U.

Guard U? Please… Come up with something original! At least try to come up with something that vastly differs from your rival who was once dubbed as “Point Guard U (PGU)”!

So even despite that, Evans’ post got me me thinking? Perhaps the University of Arizona needs to consider putting together a TBT!

Heck, we have enough talent that has come out of our program, or that has enough TBT experience to put together a very formidable team in my opinion. Look no further than seeing Fogg play, as well as Nick Johnson and Ryan Luther most recently.

Also, with the resurgence of former NBA star Joe Johnson in the TBT on Saturday afternoon, maybe Arizona could lean on former NBAers like; Gilbert Arenas, Derrick Williams, etc.

So again Guard U? Please, let real basketball schools ponder about putting together a TBT Team. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
