With the Arizona Football team gaining steam in the recruiting world, the Wildcats have scored a big commitment in former NMSU DL, Roy Lopez.

As you may recall, we talked about New Mexico State defensive lineman Roy Lopez announcing his intent to transfer just days ago, and we also mentioned how Arizona Football would be wise in pursuing him.

Given Arizona’s needs defensively, especially along the defensive line, Arizona certainly had the pitch to sell him on having plenty of playing time, plus he has ties to Tucson, which could have also helped in this recruitment.

Well, just days after announcing his intent to transfer, it seems as if Roy had his ideal school in mind as he took to social media, committing to Arizona on Sunday afternoon, despite offers from UCLA and Virginia as well.

Joining New Mexico defensive line transfer Aaron Blackwell, who also committed to the Wildcats back in January, both are solid college players who will provide immediate depth and talent, and both are certainly big gets for the Wildcats.

As for Roy who stands a massive 6-feet-2-inches and 310 pounds, he is a big, experienced college player and given his solid production while at NMSU, he is going to help the Wildcats immensely.

And just to reiterate, Roy appeared in 39 games with the Aggies, accumulating 136 total tackles (43 solo), 19.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks. So with the addition of Roy, he is going to play alongside Aaron, Trevon Mason, Myles Tapusoa and Kyon Barrs among others, and that’s a good thing!

With Roy, Arizona is getting a big, strong, smart defensive player with good defensive skills and a good motor. He explodes off the line of scrimmage, creates havoc in the backfield, even drawing the double team at times.

Just watch what he did last year!
