Looking at Arizona Football’s depth along the defensive line
With the Arizona Football team adding more depth along the defensive line, I figured now would be a good time to analyze the Wildcats’ current situation.
It’s seemingly been a position of need since 2011, and ever since the Ricky Elmore and Brooks Reed graduated, for whatever reason, the Arizona Football team just hasn’t had much success along the defensive line.
Well, if you’ve been paying attention to recent recruiting moves, then perhaps those struggles could be a thing of the past.
Arizona Wildcats
To recap, the Wildcats have brought in Aaron Blackwell and Roy Lopez as graduate transfers this past recruiting cycle. And that’s also not to overshadow the commitments of Paris Shand, Shontrail Key and Regen Terry as well.
Together, all should provide great depth along the defensive line, and really help compliment guys like; Trevon Mason, Myles Tapusoa, JB Brown, Kyon Barrs and Mykee Irving among others.
Now granted Arizona still struggled along the defensive line last year, struggling to create any sort of consistent pressure as they generated only 17 team sacks, and ranked 94th overall in rush defense.
Hard to fathom that things could get any worse from here, but nonetheless, it’s good to see the coaching staff doing their best to address things and quickly.
I do like that Trevon, Myles, JB and Kyon all return, as they seemed to progress as the season went on last year. And from early indications, this is who I would have starting along the defensive line if I’m Arizona (assuming they are indeed running a 3-4).
DE- JB (S)/ Aaron/ Kyon/ Regen
NT- Trevon (S)/ Myles/ Mykee/ Shontrail
DE- Roy (S)/ Aaron/ Kyon/ Paris
*(S) indicates starter
At least this is how I would do it, with the incoming freshmen being likely candidates for redshirts. That is unless Shontrail, Regen and Paris all come in physically ready to contribute right away.
Either way, I do seem to like this depth more, now it’s just a matter as to whether Arizona can finally start producing! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
