In a zoom call on Wednesday, Arizona Basketball guard Jemarl Baker spoke on numerous topics including why he is ready for the 2020-21 season.

I know even though we are already in July, and there are still no answers for Arizona Basketball, the Wildcats, including junior guard Jemarl Baker are under the assumption they could be returning to action as soon as August if things continue to progress in the way that they are.

In a zoom call that he had on Wednesday, Baker had discussed a number of topics, one of which was the upcoming season and the schools’ current plan for getting their student athletes integrated on campus.

Fittingly enough, we did outline this yesterday, citing that there is a lot of unknown at this time. However, it is still early and no definitive decisions have been made as of yet. Luckily for us, Baker did give us some insight there.

However, amid the in-depth discussion with the veteran guard, to me that wasn’t the biggest takeaway

No, in fact as many of you should recall, it’s that we were blessed in having our guard be immediately eligible last season, despite having transferred from Kentucky the year prior.

Appearing in 32 games with OUR Wildcats, Baker averaged 5.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Certainly not eye-popping numbers, but nonetheless his presence was felt in a big way last year, even hitting the game winner at Washington!

Well, what many of you may not know, and with what was revealed on that call today was Baker’s health. Apparently, Jemarl was battling a few injuries, most notably his hip.

Now I’m not down for typically making excuses, but if the injuries were as significant as they seem, it seems reasonable that his production may have been affected by that. And perhaps, as Baker states that he is now healthy and ready, maybe that means a big season is in store for him.

Here is a profile of him from last season, if you need a reminder of just how special this kid could be!
