With the Arizona Football team hitting the recruiting trail hard, the Wildcats have a higher rank recruiting class in 2021… for now!

It’s certainly been a busy off-season for the Arizona Football thus far and with recent events over the past few months, we’ve got to give the coaching staff a lot of credit for the work they’ve put in.

In case you haven’t seen, the Wildcats have gotten two solid commitments in the last two weeks, and are currently up to 18 in total (out of a max of 25 commitments that can possibly be taken).

At this point, it all seems very promising too, especially given the Wildcats’ struggles the past couple years in recruiting.

Since 2017, here is how Arizona has fared in recruiting each season; 2017 – No. 45 (No. 10 in Pac-12), 2018 – No. 61 (No. 11 in Pac-12), 2019 – No. 56 (No. 11 in Pac-12) and 2020 – No. 60 (No. 12 in Pac-12).

As it stands now, the Wildcats are up to No. 44 in the country and are No. 6 in the conference. Now that’s certainly a great improvement from recent years, but keep in mind it is still early, and I would anticipate this class to drop, unless Arizona were to get even more high ranking players.

Now look, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad class by any means, I actually am a big fan of a few of these commitments, however when looking at the average player rating on 247Sports specifically, this class ranks lower. In 2020, Arizona had an average player rating of 0.8416 compared to this years’ 0.8405.

To me, that suggests Arizona’s quantity of players has a lot of impact in contributing to their current class ranking. By comparison, Arizona’s player rating of 0.8405 is currently the worst in the conference.

Trying not to look at that too negatively, but can’t help but think that is a little concerning. Hopefully, this coaching staff can make it work and at least be able to develop the talent they have! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
