Cancelling Arizona Football altogether for 2020-21 would be disastrous

With some conferences already preparing to cancel the Football season, cancelling Arizona Football for the entire year would be disastrous.

With recent events in college athletics, it’s becoming more and more evident that the Arizona Football team probably won’t be playing football in the fall. And as you may recall, we discussed this likely scenario just recently.

I know we’ve been posturing for a bit that this seemed like a possibility, but now it seems like those suspicions are even more realistic as the Pac-12 and other conferences are on the verge of cancelling the football seasons altogether.

Making news on Saturday, was that the Pac-12 could be the ones to cancel their football season, especially after the Mid-American Conference has decided to cancel football for the fall. 

Certainly a move that isn’t completely unprecedented, especially since Covid is still spiraling out of control still, however, let’s hope the decision is made with good reasoning and isn’t made with the idea that football will be cancelled altogether.

Now granted, I will say the health and well-being of the athletes should be paramount, should no one should be rushing into the decision, especially if it means unnecessarily jeopardizing their health.

It’s also worth noting, that the Pac-12 is indeed prepared to set-up a loan program for their member schools who are going to be impacted severely by the loss of revenue from Covid, so at least there is a plan in place should football be cancelled altogether.

However, I must say, I hope that this isn’t completely the case. If it’s possible to move the season to the Spring, and we can safely have it then, I hope that’s the case. Making hasty decisions to me wouldn’t be ideal, and it would unfortunately impact the opportunities for some upperclassmen.

Now granted, I know the NCAA is prepared to allow hardship waivers, etc. for that, but it seems like some would likely decline playing their senior/ final seasons in order to stay healthy and shoot for the NFL Draft.

Would be unfortunate to see some football players careers cut short because of uncontrollable circumstances.
