Multiple Arizona Football players say they want to play this year
With conferences and programs cancelling or postponing football, a few Arizona Football players speak out that they want to play this season.
Who would have thought we would be here. Months after all the Spring sports were cancelled, we are now seeing Athletic Departments cancelling or postponing football programs, and Arizona Football could be next.
In case you haven’t been paying attention, things are growing more and more serious, and I know I sound like a broken record here, but we are on the brink of not having college football in 2020.

Already, the Mountain West and the Mid-American Conferences made announcements to push out football until the Spring. Ideally just trying to postpone everything until we have a better handle on the virus, and have better testing protocols in place.
While the Pac-12 and the Big-10 will be making decisions about their respective seasons, as you may recall, I said that cancelling the 2020 Arizona Football season would be disastrous. I still stand by that too.
With multiple conferences beginning to cancel or weigh their options in cancelling football, as a result numerous football players are not happy with those decisions, and thusly are speaking out.
While their safety and well-being is still paramount, again you are seeing highly competitive athletes show their discontent on potentially seeing their seasons taken away from them.
Clemson quarterback and presumptive 2021 No. 1 NFL draft pick Trevor Lawrence took to social media to show his discontent in the potential decision. Even Ohio States’ Justin Fields joined in on the action.
But the criticism doesn’t stop there. In fact, Arizona’s Grant Gunnell, Colin and Brenden Schooler also took to social media to express their discontent as well.
Much like numerous student athletes expressing their desires for their voices to be heard and demanding action in the #WeAreUnited campaign, now there are athletes tweeting #WeWantToPlay.
Granted some schools don’t seemingly have quite the appropriate testing and player safety protocols like Arizona, but this whole situation seems like it could have been handled better and shown more leadership had the NCAA or the Pac-12 implemented more useful procedures from the beginning.
Need some glimmer of hope as to how that could be done? Well, look at the NBA and the players receiving regular Covid tests, as well as them having strict living conditions. Maybe extreme, but their model is working.
Either way, I feel for the athletes that want to play that may not be able to. Seems like an unfortunate circumstance that could have been handled better. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
