Arizona Athletics provides update on their Covid testing

With the University of Arizona officially back in session, the Arizona Athletics Department provides an update on their Covid testing.

It’s been months since Covid virtually shut down all activity on the University of Arizona campus, including Arizona Athletics events, but finally we may be making progress in terms of getting things back to normal.

Look, the only way at getting through all this is by taking appropriate measures, and taking one day at a time. Eventually we were going to have to figure out how to get kids back on campus, but also have them buy in to the preventative measures until this Virus can get stamped out.

The reality of it is you can’t shut down things forever, and I think the Arizona Athletics department deserves a ton of credit for how they’ve handled this whole situation.

They have taken it seriously, have provided regular testing to their student-athletes, and as a result, they seem to have some of the lower totals comparatively speaking.

Well on Friday, the Athletic Department provided an update, especially as they now have 169 student-athletes and 86 staff members on campus following their re-entry plan.

According to Arizona, a “total of five student-athletes have tested positive,” and “there has also been a single positive test among the staff members”.

I know one is too many, but in a perhaps dark and sadistic way, if there were to be a silver lining in this, this seems like one.

Luckily for Arizona, those individuals that tested positive did self-quarantine rather quickly according to the school.

Athletic Director Dave Heeke decided to speak on the matter as well!

"“The results of our testing are an important update to our ongoing re-entry planning and processes for a safe and healthy return to campus,” said Heeke. “I am proud of the compassion, teamwork and determination of all our student-athletes, coaches, staff and campus partners who all play key roles in our re-entry. Arizona Athletics will continue its focus on health, safety and wellbeing in its ongoing re-entry of the entire Wildcat Family.”"
